lax to cph

Today’s the day! I’m about to board my flight from Los Angeles to Copenhagen. Packing was pretty crazy, but I eventually got everything to fit (somehow). I’m bringing one large checked suitcase, one smaller carry-on suitcase, and my school backpack (folded into a sort of backpack-purse hybrid to meet the Norwegian Air size standards). Here’s what I packed:

In addition to what’s listed above, I also brought:

  • shoes: rain boots, two pairs of sneakers, a pair of tennis shoes, flip flops, and a pair of heeled booties
  • one swimsuit
  • three dresses
  • three pairs of shorts
  • five blouses
  • one set of business casual clothes
  • one rain coat and one small puffy coat
  • a journal
  • a daypack
  • photos (to decorate my room!)
  • jewelry
  • travel documents (passport, entry letters, and arrival info)
  • a few other miscellaneous personal items

I definitely had to leave behind a lot of things (which was difficult), but after I finished packing, I opened my new journal and the very first page inside said “Collect moments, not things.” This is going to be my goal for the semester – to remind myself that it’s the moments that matter.

arriving at lax!

I’m really looking forward to orientation over the next few days and to getting familiar with the area through tours of DIS and of Mønten (my Kollegium). I’m especially excited for the “Living Like a Local” sessions during orientation – it will definitely be helpful to learn about food, nightlife, culture, and fashion in Copenhagen. I’m hoping to rent a bike for the semester – it’s only a ten-minute ride from my Kollegium to DIS!

After orientation Monday through Wednesday, I’ll be starting classes on Thursday. I’m looking forward to meeting my visiting host family next week (they have two kids and a dog!), along with exploring Copenhagen and trying my first onsdagssnegle (Wednesday snail, a Danish pastry) in the city.

I’m about to take off for Copenhagen – I’ll share another update after orientation and my first couple days of classes. Signing off for now – farvel!

getting ready to take off 🙂
